Councillors and the LGPS
From 1 April 2014 the LGPS closed to councillors in England. Those councillor members in England who were in the scheme on the 31 March 2014 were allowed to remain in the scheme until the end of the term of office they held on that date and would not be able to rejoin the LGPS in any subsequent term of office in which they serve.
This means that since the 2017 local elections, there are no active councillor members in the Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire Pension Funds.
You should have received a letter from us, following you leaving the LGPS, to inform you of your benefit entitlement. If you were not eligible to or did not elect to receive payment of your pension, at the time of leaving the LGPS, you will have a deferred benefit. For more information about the scheme, including information about when your benefits will be payable, please see the scheme guide below.
More information is also available on the national LGPS members website.
